Wow praise the Lord!
Officially, i'm in the last batch that can defer national service for university studies, be it overseas or local.
The Second Defence Minsister, Dr Ng Eng Hen said, "We applied the principle of universality, equity to ensure that everyone within the same cohort receives the more or less the same treatment in allowing them to attain their educational qualifications."

Furthermore, I had to be seventeen and a half years or younger on the first day of uni year one in order to be allowed by mindef to pursue an overseas degree. Last year the first day of first year uni was Febuary 28th 2005, and my birthday is 31st August, 1987. Well, you do the math.

It's really a privilege and sometimes a joy to be able to study overseas. Note the word 'sometimes'.

jincheng's mother says, "please study very very very hard."

kaeee..
